White Lies for Valentine's!

The White Lies came to visit Austin (and us - the PIPs) on Valentine's Day! If you haven't heard of them, listen immediately. If you haven't seen them live, get on a plane immediately. They are that good. Imagine a dash of Joy Division, mixed in with lots of 80s keyboards, add in some driving, gritty bass lines with a drummer who gets things done. If Ian Curtis and Paul Banks had a happier triplet, it would be Mr. Harry McVeigh. Austin was lucky enough to be the first stop on their US tour, so we got to hear many of the new songs from their latest album, "Big TV" first - everything was just amazing. And if things weren't already perfect, they decided to do a cover of their 'favorite Prince song' - which is "I Would Die 4 U" - all on keys, xylophone and that delicious, dirty bass. We've only seen them twice, and those were two of the best shows ever!

Cure Rumours Have Us All A-flutter...

Such wonderful news!  My dear Cure sister and I will finally have our dream come true - the next trilogy live:  The Top, The Head on the Door and Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me.  How will we ever survive the B sides?

It's February 1964 - The Beatles Arrive in America!

February 7, 1964 - the day that The Beatles first came to America, landing at JFK to find over 4000 fans, journalists and photographers waiting to greet them. George was the only Beatle who had even been to America before, so they were all quite surprised by the reception. 50 years ago today - on February 9, 1964, they made their first US television appearance on the Ed Sullivan show to 73 million viewers (approximately 2/5 of the total American population!) The world was forever changed.
